Yamabuki

Yamabuki Ogon, or Yamabuki, are koi with a solid metallic-yellow body and no other color anywhere on the body.  While Yamabuki do not display the intricate patterns that are seen in many other koi varieties, their bright yellow coloration will stand out in a dark pond, and can provide a wonderful compliment to their patterned pond-mates.

What To Look For

Yamabuki should have clean, uninterrupted scalation with no irregularities or blemishes.  Since they are a single color with no pattern, any blemishes or scars will stand out more so than on a patterned variety.

The head should also be clear and clean with very few or no blemishes.  A blemished or dirty head stands out on all Ogon varieties.

Yamabuki can vary in tones of yellow, from a light, vibrant yellow to a darker, more solid marigold-like color.

Ideal Yamabuki should have solid white fins, and may or may not have patches of yellow starting at the base of the pectoral fins and spreading out across part of each fin.
